It's awesome that you know this stuff; many thanks for sharing it with us!! Stockings, and lingerie in general, are my kryptonite...
It's interesting how full fashioned stockings are made. The heel and seams are formed from the material being sewn together. Dark thread gives you a dark seam while beige thread creates a 'self' seam. It's a pretty inticate process to make a pair of stockings.
